The Right Way to Eat Mor Chikin

Thanks to the curious student who asked me this...

Q: What is the best item to eat on the Chick-fil-A menu?

A:            Is it possible to eat out and eat healthy? Of course! The “best” item depends on what you are looking for. Are you trying to trim down? Are you trying to eat more veggies? Are you trying to bulk up (which makes it easy – one of everything please!)?

If you are looking purely at calories, the chargrilled chicken salad with no dressing comes in as the winner at 180 calories. Mmmm…a salad with no dressing…delicious, right? Not so much. You may also get a little hungry if all you are eating is lettuce and a little chicken.

The next low-cal option is going to be the 8 piece Chick-Fil-A nuggets at 260 calories (remember no sauce!). With these nuggets you will not be getting much else than some breading and protein, so expect to feel unsatisfied and hungry shortly after eating your meal.

I recommend getting the whole nutrition package when you are choosing meal – the protein, carbs, good fats, plus all the vitamins and minerals. In this case, the best option is the Chargrilled Chicken Cool Wrap. Coming in at a higher 410 calories, this sandwich also comes with fiber (9 grams!), over 30 grams of protein (the “magic” number to keeping you full), and lots more vitamins and minerals than your other options. Also, if you are smart, add the apple you threw in your backpack and your meal is pretty much complete.
